Can I hire you to take the portrait?
Yes! Call or e-mail to set up a date and time. Our professional photographer will come to your location for the session.

$125-300 is due when you book the portrait. This covers mileage, travel time and the session. The photographer will travel to your location within southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois only. Portrait sessions last one hour.

After your pet’s portraits are completed, you will receive an e-mail directing you to this Web site to look at images to proof. Select your favorite and contact us. Your Pop Art Petrait will be created from this image. Your final payment is due at this time. If you prefer a traditional portrait without the Pop Art Petrait effect, we will create a unique, custom image for you in a black or white frame and mat the same as a Petrait.

Before the final image(s) is created, you will receive one/three digital photos for your approval, depending on which Pop Art Petrait package you select. They will be in primary colors.

Your portrait will be mailed to you ready to hang.
8x10 photo will be matted in an 11x14 frame.
11x14 photo will be matted in a 16x20 frame.
Portraits in threes come in 12x20 frame size.
Please refer to the order form or call if you are uncertain which one to select. High-quality, black or white matte metal frames with Plexiglass will finish your Pop Art Petrait.
Canvas Pop Art Petraits are also available. Call with your size for a price.

If I want to take the photo, what type of image works best?
• Closeup with one or two animals in the picture
• Background plain
• No copyrighted photos *(see question)
• 2200x2200 dpi or larger in jpeg format (If you're not sure how to do this, send us the image to review.)
• Will accept prints, but prefer jpeg format
• Clear, crisp images work the best

Tips for taking pet photos

How do I prepare my pet(s) for a Pop Art Petrait?
• Groom your pet
• Play with your pet
• Have treats and toys available
• Have someone to help you with your pet(s)

How do I order if I already have a photo I want to use?
Go to the How to Order page. Follow the instructions on this page.

How are these Pop Art Petraits made?
Our photographer / graphic designer creates these custom portraits for you in a well-known software application. Your image is created using solarization.

Your photo(s) is printed using an Epson 2200 Photo Printer with special expensive paper and ink that make your custom Pop Art Petrait archival, which means that with proper care your portrait will last over 70 years.

What is solarization?
Similar to a style made famous by artist Andy Warhol, this technique reduces the tones in the image, changes the colors and adds some final filters to create an image that is fun, modern and a great conversation piece.

How do I care for my new Pop Art Petrait?
It’s pretty simple to maintain your Pop Art Petrait.
• Keep the portrait inside its frame.
• Do not expose your portrait to direct sunlight or hang outdoors.
• Keep it out of high heat and humidity areas such as a bathroom.

How did Pop Art Petraits start?

Pop Art Petraits is a new business. It all started when Susan Lukas, the person behind it, was asked by a customer if she could make her dog's photo into a portrait similar to one Susan was exhibiting at this art show. Susan has been a photographer for 18 years and a graphic designer for 10 years. She has exhibited her work at art shows and galleries in Wisconsin and Illinois, and done freelance photography.

Susan has always loved animals and grew up with dogs around her and has been adopted by several cats. She wanted to use this business to help animal shelters in her area. It was a natural combination of two loves: photography and animals. But she wanted to make her new business different and added the Pop Art effect to her pet photos. What do you think? She would love to hear from you.

She is available for sittings at events in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Those portraits can be turned into Petraits. To learn more about her, go to her other Web site. Her resume, history and artist statement are located there.

What is your cancellation/refund policy?
Cancelled portrait sessions will be re-booked at no charge. If the session is not rebooked, your money will be refunded minus a $10 processing fee. We want happy customers and will work to resolve any issues. We provide several proofs for you to review before we make the final portrait. 100% satisfaction is guaranteed.

* How do I know if my image is copyrighted?
If you purchased your portrait from another photographer, then it is the property of that photographer and you need permission to use it. If you took your photo, then it belongs to you.

Which charities and how much will you be donating?
I am an animal rights advocate and will donate 10% to a variety of animal charities. The cost of shipping is also included in the price of your Pop Art Petrait.
